- Reason: Completition
[edit] Sending and Composing Messages
To begin composing a private message, you either need to click on the "Compose" link in your Private Message Center/User Control Panel, click on the "PM" button below a person's post, which will automatically enter their username as the reciepent, or click on "Send USERNAME HERE a private message." in their Profile.
The compose private message screen is fairly similar to the post new thread and post new reply screens. The only difference is that there is a "Recipent" field and that some of the Options are different. You can use smilies and MyCode in your message, and choose a post icon for your private message.
The different options that are available in Private Messages but not in posts is "Save a Copy: save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder," and "Request Read Receipt: receive a message when this message is read." When you choose to save a copy, which is selected by default, it will save a copy in your "Sent" items folder. If you choose to request a read reciept, which is also selected by default, you will be able to tell when your message is read. This is further outlined in the "Tracking" section below.
As with posts, you can choose to preview or save the message as a draft, and of course, send the message (for posts, this is posting the message).
[edit] Tracking
Private Message Tracking lets you see whether the person you sent a PM to has read the message, and if they have not read it yet, you can cancel the message. When composing a message, you can "Request Read Receipt," which will "track" the message. By default, this is selected when you compose a new Private Message. Once you have sent it, you can go to the Tracking page at any time by clicking on "Tracking" in the Private Messenger Menu.
[edit] Read Messages
The messages at the top are Read Messages, which are ones that have already been read. The only option you can perform is to Stop Tracking them. To do this, you select the check box (in the "?" column) next to the private messages that you wish to stop tracking. Once you have selected the messages that you wish to stop tracking, you click on the "Stop Tracking" button, which is at the bottom of the "Read Messages" block.
[edit] Unread Messages
The messages listed more near the bottom of the page are the messages that have not yet been read by the person you sent them to. One of the options you can perform to these particular messages is to Stop Tracking the messages. After clicking on the Stop Tracking button, you will no longer be able to tell whether the person has read the message or not. Alternatively, if you do not want the recipent to recieve the message after all, you can "Cancel" the selected messages. This will delete the message from their inbox, making it impossible for them to read it. To perform either of these options, you select the check box (in the "?" column) next to the private messages that you wish to perform an action on. Then, you click on either the "Stop Tracking" or "Cancel" button at the bottom of the block, which will then perform the action you chose.
[edit] Deny Reciept
If you are the one recieiving a message, you can choose to deny the read reciept that the sender would recieve when you read the message. It will basically stop tracking the message that you are about to read. To do this, you click on "[deny receipt]", which should be next to the subject of the Private Message in your Private Message listing, before you read the message. This way, you can make it unknown to the sender whether you actually read the message or not.
[edit] Folders
Your account, by default, comes with 4 folders: Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts, Trash Can. The use of folders are quite self-explanatory.
MyBB allows you to add your own folders. By clicking on the Edit Folders link on any User CP page, you will be presented with a list of folders. You may rename the folders in the Existing Folders section, or add new folders in the Add New Folders section. To delete a folder, simply delete its name from the box - be warned that all private messages that exist inside this folder will be deleted permanently as well.
[edit] Empty Folders
On this page, you will see a list of your PM folders, and the number of private messages that exist in each, respectively.
Emptying folders will permanently delete all the PMs in the folders you have selected.
[edit] Export Messages
This page gives you several options on downloading your private messages.
