[edit] The Glossary

Here is a glossary of MyBB and forum related terminology that everyone should be familiar with. The list is in alphabetical order.

[edit] Administrator

An administrator has access to the Admin Control Panel. This group of users is usually the highest ranking group of users in the forum as they have moderators access to all forums, and access to the Admin CP.

[edit] Beta

Beta versions are released either to public or to a private beta testing group. Beta means that the software is a preview release and may contain bugs. Usually the feature set will be frozen for the main release, and only bugs will be fixed for the main release. This version descriptor will be used (starting from version 1.2.0) in lieu of Release Candidates and Preview Releases.

The term board is also often interchanged with forum to refer to specific forums or the bulletin board as a whole.

[edit] Moderator (Mod)

[edit] Modification (Mod)

Modifications released by their authors require actual code modifications to the core MyBB files in order to extend the functionality of your copy of MyBB.

[edit] phpMyAdmin

This is a very extensive administration utility for your MySQL databases. You can use this software to backup and restore your databases, and also make modifications to the database structure and data. More information at phpMyAdmin.net

[edit] Plugins

Plugins were introduced since MyBB 1.0 PR2. These allow plugin authors to script a file with all the necessary PHP, and all administrators have to do to activate the functionality of the plugin is to upload the file to the plugin directory, and activate it via the Admin Panel. This has simplified the process of extending MyBB for both authors and users of these plugins.

See more information at Plugins.
